Talis Aspire: Course reading lists

Information to help academic staff create course reading material lists and manage copyright compliance.

Integrate Talis list with Blackboard

Once you have created and published a list in Talis, you can link and display the list within Blackboard. Link the course code to the Talis list:

  • Click Edit at the top of the list, and then select Hierarchy and student numbers at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
  • Type in the course code and the estimated number of students, and then click Save.
  • You can now display sections of the list, or the whole list, in Blackboard.

Display list in Blackboard

  • Go to Blackboard and open your course
  • Navigate to the page that you would like to display the list.
  • Click Build Content
  • Select Talis Aspire from the drop-down menu
  • Fill in the name (eg Course Reading List, or Week One Readings) and include any other details for students in the Description section
  • Date and Time restrictions can also be added here if needed, but ignore the attachments option.
  • Click Submit
  • The Talis content block will have been added to the page
  • Click on the name next to the icon
  • Check the correct Talis list is displayed; if not use the search bar to find the correct Talis list
  • Click Save

Relinking each year

When a course in Blackboard rolls over it still has the Talis reading list linked from the previous year and trimester.

What you need to do is link your Talis reading list to Blackboard again.

To do this:

  1. Go to your reading list in Talis
  2. If you see the Publish prompt click on Publish to make your changes visible
  3. Go into your Blackboard course and find your Talis reading list
  4. Click on the reading list
  5. To link to the full or whole Talis list, delete the previous course code from the box, retype the course code
  6. Click Save
  7. You will find your updated reading list linked to Blackboard and visible to students
  8. If you only want to link to the week or section, find the list and click on it. Delete the previous course code from the box, retype the course code. Click on Relink. Select the week/section and click Save
