ProQuest Ebook Central: Read Online or Download?

Most ProQuest Ebook Central books give you the options of reading online and downloading the whole book. You can do most things such as copy & paste, printing and downloading (see below for more details).

Some recently published textbooks found in ProQuest eBook Central will have more restrictive access rights. You may find that they have disabled the ability to print, copy, or download chapters as PDFs. These textbooks will still be able to be read online, and in some instances you may be able to download the full title to Adobe Digital Editions.

Downloading an eBook

eBooks on ProQuest Ebook Central and Ebsco platforms require software to be installed before you can read them offline.

In these cases, PC or Mac Users will need to:

  • Create an Adobe ID
  • Download and install Adobe Digital Editions
If you are using a computer in the Library, it should
have Adobe Digital Editions installed already.
  • Authorise the software with your Adobe ID

Adobe Digital Editions will show you how long you have the
book downloaded for.

Once you install and authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your device, you can click the "Full Download" button and follow the instructions. You will then be able to open the eBook and read it in Adobe Digital Editions.

Copy and Paste

While reading in the Read Online mode, click and highlight the text you want to copy and click the copy button. A small window pops up, which includes the text and the reference. You can copy and paste it by pressing Control & C.

Adding notes

To add a note to a ProQuest Ebook Central book, click on the note icon at the top of the page. You can also choose to highlight a section of text or add a bookmark.

Click on the star icon at the very left of the page to see all of your notes, highlights and bookmarks. Select a note you've made to be taken straight to that page.

Save in PDF and print

To create a PDF file and print, click the pint button at the top.

In the pop-up window, select a page range option. It shows you how many pages you can print. Whichever option you select, a  PDF file is then created, which you can save or print.
