Tools and tips

The Chicago Manual of Style 17 (Chicago or CMOS) is the standard referencing style for Classics. You can access the official manual online via the Library.

Chicago has two different systems. The Notes and Bibliography system makes use of footnote or endnotes together with a bibliography. The other system, Author-Date References, uses bracketed author-date in-text citations and a corresponding reference list. The content of the references is the same but differs in form.
