Adding resources

Using the Bookmark button to add resources

To add published material to your reading list, find a record for it online and then click the bookmark button.

How to bookmark a...

  1. Search and find the journal article in Te Waharoa.
  2. Click through to the database hosting the article.
  3. Click the bookmark button.
  4. Check that the Online Resource box is ticked in the bookmark record.
  5. Accept the default option offered from the pop-up box, eg, DOI.
  6. Click on Create & Add to List.
  7. Complete the Create & Add to List options and set the level of Importance.
  1. Search and find the book in Te Waharoa.
  2. Click through to the database hosting the eBook.
  3. Click through to the chapter require.
  4. Click the bookmark button.
  5. Add Field Has part (chapter, article etc)
  6. Enter chapter information. This include chapter number and chapter title.
  7. Click Create & Add to List. Specify where in the list the bookmark should be added.
  8. Enter the chapter details in the Note for Student field and set the level of Importance.

Request digitisation for a print book chapter

  1. Search and find the book in Te Waharoa.
  2. Click on the title of the book to view the individual record.
  3. Click on the Details tab to bring up the best metadata for the item.
  4. Click your bookmark button.
  5. Add Field Has part (chapter, article etc)
  6. Enter chapter information. This include chapter number and chapter title.
  7. Click Create & Add to List. Specify where in the list the bookmark should be added.
  8. Enter the chapter details in the Note for Student field and set the level of Importance.
  9. Then find the item on your reading list
  10. Click the menu for that resource
  11. Click Request Digitisation.
  12. Fill in the form. Please make sure you include the chapter number and title of the chapter
  1. Find the relevant video on YouTube.
  2. Go to Share option and copy the URL for the video.
  3. Go to viewpure.com and paste in the URL (this gives you a clean page to view the video).
  4. Click the Add to My Bookmarks bookmarklet on your browser toolbar.
  5. Check and edit the title if required as YouTube videos may bookmark with insufficient title information and ensure type is Audio-visual document.
  6. Check that the Online Resource box is ticked in the bookmark record.
  7. Click on Create & Add to List.
  8. Complete the Create & Add to List options and set the level of Importance.
  1. Go to the relevant webpage.
  2. Click the Add to My Bookmarks bookmarklet on your browser toolbar.
  3. Check and edit the title details.  
  4. Check that the Online Resource box is ticked in the bookmark record.
  5. Click on Create & Add to List.
  6. Complete the Create & Add to List options and set the level of Importance.
  • If you can find a link to the resource on the internet, then use this to bookmark add it to you list and then request digitisation for that item.
  • Contact your Subject Librarian and they can look into purchasing the material.
  • Make sure in the notes to Library you note that you have a physical copy of the item for them to use.

Adding resources from reference management software

Note this will not work if a reference has a PDF attached.

  1. Open Endnote
  2. Click: Edit, then Output styles
  3. Open Style manager
  4. Tick "Refman(RIS) Export"
  5. Close window (click small "x" top right")
  6. Select resources you want to export from Endnote
  7. Click File, then Export
  8. Save as type: Text file (*.txt)
  9. Output style: Refman(RIS) Export
  10. Select folder location to save to
  11. Go to Talis
  12. Click My Bookmarks, then Add
  13. Click Import Citations, then Choose file
  14. Choose the file you just saved from Endnote
  15. Import – references will now be saved as Bookmarks, or you can choose to create a new list with the references
