Instructions

Create a referencing style tools and tips box that replicates those on the Instructions and Mapped Content guide.

If your subject guide requires more than one referencing style, add them both in a single tools and tips box.

Step by step instructions:

  • From the Tools and tips boxes below pick the referencing style used by your subject, and hide or delete the unused boxes. If your subject uses more than one style combine both introductions into a single statements in a single tools and tips box.
  • If appropriate, under the introduction text, Add / Reorder > Media / Widget > Reuse "Quick tip - try Te Waharoa Citation button".
  • Repeat for each style you include:
    1. Reuse the Media Widget for the section heading for your style. Options are:....
    2. Reuse links from Instructions and Mapped Content guide to replicate the box content for your style.
  • Add at the bottom of your box, reuse the Media Widget "Need more help? - section header".
  • Reuse links from the Instructions and Mapped Content guide to replicate content.

Set this instructions box to Draft Mode, or delete it, before you publish your guide.

APA (American Psychological Association) is a common referencing style used in the [SCHOOL / FACULTY NAME]. The most recent version is APA 7th edition, published in 2019.

Tools and tips - Chicago

Chicago (Chicago Manual of Style) is a common referencing style use in the [SCHOOL / FACULTY NAME]. The most recent version is CMOS 17th edition, published in 2017.

Chicago referencing style has two systems. Check with your Faculty, School or Course Coordinator about which system to use:

  • Chicago A notes and bibliography system uses footnote or endnotes
  • Chicago B author-date system uses in-text citations and a reference list (also known as Harvard style)
