Resources for researchers and teaching staff

The following resources are available for research and teaching purposes.

Customised Data Sets are also available upon request, and are a way for researchers to gain access to data held by Statistics NZ that are not easily accessible by other means.Universities each have a set allocation of hours for customised data that is available to individuals for specific research purposes. This service is made under an agreement between Stats NZ and the Council of New Zealand University Librarians (CONZUL) for Statistics for Universities. Contact to make a request.


Infoshare is a free online tool that gives you access to a range of time-series data such as:

  • Economic information (eg price indexes and production figures)
  • Demographic measures (eg births and deaths) 
  • Arrival and departure data 
  • Wholesale and retail trade information 
  • Exports and imports data 
  • Building consents data

Infoshare data sets can be browsed, downloaded and customised to meet your needs.
