J.C.Beaglehole Room

Introduction to the Library's special collections

What is the J.C.Beaglehole Room?

The J.C.Beaglehole Room is the home of Victoria University Library's unique and heritage collections. Our special collections include both published and unpublished material.

You will find us on Level 4 of the Rankine Brown Library building at Kelburn.

Published material can usually be identified using Te Waharoa.

Once you have your initial results, limit the location to Kelburn Library (JCBR) using the 'Refine my results' option on the left of the screen. Unpublished material which has been listed can be identified using our online archival finding aids.

Contact us for further assistance in identifying material which might be of use to you.

Special Collections items can only be consulted in the J.C.Beaglehole Reading Room on Level 4 of the Rankine Brown Library building at Kelburn. The Reading Room is open 10am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

For staff and students at the University, access to our published material is made via Te Waharoa using the request option. Please note this is a 'last resort' collection, so if there are other copies available, we will direct you to those in the first instance.

Access to the unpublished material can be requested through the online request form, by emailing us, or by visiting to discuss what it is you'd like to consult.

For others, please contact us using the online request form, email, or phone us if you need to consult something from our collections.
