Course reading lists (Talis)

Information to help academic staff create course reading lists and manage copyright compliance.

Set up

Your access will be set-up through contact with your Subject Librarian. You will receive email invites from Talis to accept the roles of List Creator and List Publisher. Click on the link in the emails to validate your new account and create your profile.

The link to Talis is https://victoria.rl.talis.com/index.html. Save it for direct access.

The first time you sign into Talis, you will need to create your profile.

  1. Sign in to Talis - http://victoria.rl.talis.com
  2. Note: remember to bookmark or favourite this page for later easy access!
  3. Click on Create a Profile.
  4. Complete the form and set your profile to Public. This will enable your students to search for lists you have created and published.
  5. Click Save Profile.
  6. If you are asked to accept a list publisher role, click Accept.

Talis uses a browser extension that allows resources to be added to your reading list in one-click. You need to add a browser extension in order to add resources to your reading list.

If you change computers or use different internet browsers you will need to install the browser extension button again.

Google Chrome – adding bookmark extension

  1. Follow this link to open the Chrome extension
  2. Click on Add to Chrome
  3. Select Add extension
  4. Right click on the Talis logo which is now visible in your toolbar
  5. Select Options and select Victoria University of Wellington and save

Microsoft Edge– adding bookmark extension

  1. In Microsoft Edge go to the Chrome Web Store
  2. Select Allow extensions from other stores in the banner at the top of the page, then select Allow to confirm
  3. Right-click on the logo and choose Extension Options
  4. Search for Victoria University of Wellington

 

Safari – adding bookmarklet

  1. Make sure the bookmarks / favourites toolbar is showing on your browser. Shortcut: Command + Shift + B
  2. From Course Reading Lists, click on My Bookmarks. You can take the tutorial tour or cancel.
  3. From the top right corner, click on Install Bookmark Button.
  4. Read the information in the pop-up screen and click Next once.
  5. Click and drag the Add to My Bookmarks button to your favourites toolbar.
  6. The bookmarklet should now appear in your favourites toolbar as Add to My Bookmarks – we recommend renaming this to Add to Talis.

Mozilla Firefox– adding bookmark extension

  1. Follow this link to the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons menu
  2. Search for Talis Aspire.
  3. Click on Add to Firefox
  4. Click on Add.
  5. Click on the Talis icon 
  6. Select Victoria University of Wellington from the drop down and click Save
